The Global Rock Challenge - A Worldwide initiative

The Global Rock Challenge is a performing arts event involving students in primary and secondary schools and colleges around the globe.  The Be Your Best Foundation produces the Rock Challenge in the United Kingdom and Ireland and works to build partnerships in each participating community by involving students, parents, teachers, community leaders, local businesses, police and the media. The aims of the Global Rock Challenge initiative are to:

• Provide the opportunity for students around the world to have fun in a performing arts environment.
• Inspire and educate students and their communities to live healthy lifestyles free from tobacco, alcohol and other drugs.
• Provide the opportunity for students to develop their performing arts, production and life skills.
• Teach students that excellence is achieved through application of creativity, hard work, enthusiasm and cooperation.
• Foster school, local, national and international community relationships, build networks and provide the framework for a supportive total learning environment.

In a nutshell, the Rock Challenge is a performing arts competition that shows young people how they can achieve a “natural high” without the use of tobacco, alcohol or other substances.  It communicates health and social education messages to teenagers in a positive and supportive environment.  The “Challenge” for the students and their teachers is to create and be involved in their own production from conceptualisation through to the final live performance.

Following the recent success of “We Will Rock You”, Year 13 Performing Arts will lead the Charles Darwin School performance for Rock Challenge at the Hackney Empire on May 1st 2009.  This is an excellent opportunity for Charles Darwin School to showcase our students’ talents and we warmly invite all parents and supporters of our students to log on to www.rockchallenge.co.uk.  to find out more about the event.
