This was the title of the Year 11 BTEC Performing Arts recent performance for their devising unit. They were commissioned by the head of Year 11 to produce a piece of drama tackling the problems of attendance and behaviour.
Under huge secrecy these twelve girls created a piece which showed Year 11 how students with poor attendance or attitude could improve their chances of gaining not only their GCSEs, but also of going to their Leavers’ Ball.
On Monday, 28th January, all Year 11 students were brought to the hall for an “emergency assembly” led by Mr Tilley who began berating them for their attendance and attitude, and how it would affect their chances of going to the Ball. Suddenly the houselights went out, stagelights came on and music played. The show began led by a good fairy and a bad fairy introducing us to the “good” kids and the “not so good” kids.
The piece was lively, entertaining and cleverly made its point without dictating to the students. Feedback after the event was full of praise from teachers, grateful for the initiative, and students who felt the message was a good one and food for thought.
Well done Year 11 BTEC.
