Dance Comp 2009 PDF Print E-mail
Huge congratulations to all pupils involved in Dance 2008/9. Semi finals held two weeks ago selected key dances for the final and the capacity audience weren’t disappointed. The level of rehearsal and polish to the dances, and the number of boys involved, made the competition one of the best in recent years.

Judging was certainly difficult, so ably done this year by Julie Stanning , Rebecca Kearney and the guest judge, Emma Jewell, an ex-Charles Darwin pupil currently studying dance at Laban. Despite some outstanding costumes and levels of performance, the final winning routines were judged as follows:

Year 7 medal winners – Nicole Willis, Grace Beegan and Emma Conington
Year 8 medal winner and overall KS3 cup winner – Lanre Martin
Year 9 medal winners – Jade Stratton and Nick Walpole
Year 10/11 medal winners – Sarah Dobney, Jessika Smith-Reid, Sophie Herbert and Megan Rhodes
Year 12/13 medal winners and overall KS4/5 cup winner – Rhiannon Bater, Robin Muir, Scott Englefield and Victoria Witts

Performances such as these would not be possible without help from staff in school. Big thanks must go to Conor Crowley, Assistant Music Technician, for the very stressful job in charge of music, Jack Jewell, ex-pupil, currently studying at The BRIT School, for the best lighting we have ever had in a dance competition (and I include me in darkness at the start when I say that!), Katy Farrell and Sarah Wheeler for their help back stage and of course my fellow judges.

A final well done to all dancers who created a dance for the competition at any level. Hope to see you all again next year.
