What a superb evening and a great atmosphere; Tuesday’s Battle of the Bands was an epic. We were extremely fortunate this year in having Councilor Pauline Tunnicliffe, Mayor of Bromley, as our Guest of Honour and judge. The Mayor wholeheartedly entered into the spirit of the occasion and this was immensely appreciated by all present and especially the performers.
The eventual winner was Abbey Road, with The Masters of Dirp & Lifeline in second and third places respectively. The Best Newcomers were judged to be from Year 10 Unknown Conflict. Individual prizes were also awarded to Harri Pritchard (keyboards), Ben Lockwood (drums), Dean Histed (guitar), Martyn Payne (vocals) and to Sonny Palmer for stage presence.
An unexpected outcome of the evening was The Mayor’s announcement that she was so impressed by the performance of “Abbey Road” that she was inviting them to be a support band at her end of year ball in April. A great honour and the invitation was swiftly and enthusiastically accepted.
